Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG) and Sarawak Tourism Board (STB) Partner to Boost Sarawak Tourism

Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG) and Sarawak Tourism Board (STB) have further solidified their partnership by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance tourism initiatives in Sarawak. The three-year partnership aims to leverage synergies between both entities to promote Sarawak as a premier tourist destination in the lead up to Visit Malaysia Year 2026.

Kuching, 27 June 2024 – Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG) and Sarawak Tourism Board (STB) have further solidified their partnership by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance tourism initiatives in Sarawak. The three-year partnership aims to leverage synergies between both entities to promote Sarawak as a premier tourist destination in the lead up to Visit Malaysia Year 2026. The MoU was inked between Ahmad Luqman Mohd Azmi, Chief Executive Officer of Airlines from MAG and Sharzede Datu Haji Salleh Askor, Chief Executive Officer of STB, and witnessed by YB Datuk Sebastian Ting, Deputy Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts. Under the MoU, MAG and STB will jointly explore and implement activities to attract more visitors to Sarawak, including through the Malaysia Airlines’ Bonus Side Trip programme where travellers can enjoy a complimentary stopover to explore the rich and diverse culture of Sarawak, in addition to other joint promotional activities to ensure seamless travels to Sarawak and beyond. Ahmad Luqman Mohd Azmi, Chief Executive Officer of Airlines from MAG , commented on the partnership stating, "We are delighted to strengthen our collaboration with Sarawak Tourism Board to promote Sarawak as a top tourist destination. This partnership aligns with MAG's commitment to support Malaysia's tourism industry recovery and growth, especially as we work hand in hand in the lead up to Visit Malaysia Year 2026. Together with STB, we aim to create impactful initiatives that showcase Sarawak's unique attractions to the world; strengthening our commitment in facilitating travels as the gateway to Asia and beyond." Sharzede Datu Haji Salleh Askor, Chief Executive Officer from STB , said, “This partnership is targeted at elevating the connectivity of Sarawak through various collaboration and initiatives, in preparation of Visit Malaysia Year 2026 and beyond.” As part of the collaboration, MAG will facilitate seamless travel arrangements for familiarisation trips and key events such as the Rainforest World Music Festival and the Rainforest ASEAN Youth Summit, and aid participation in major travel fairs in Penang, Johor Bharu, and Kuala Lumpur, further solidifying the airline’s aspiration to be the gateway to Asia and beyond. In 2022, STB partnered with MAG and its airlines Malaysia Airlines, Firefly, MASwings, and MHholidays to promote the Bonus Side Trip and "Sia Sitok Sarawak Plus," campaigns to boost domestic tourism and increase tourist arrivals in Sarawak as COVID-19 travel bans were lifted.
